Saigon

03-Mar-2023m read

Stepping out on to the busy streets of Saigon is something else. You’re stripped of all better judgement and forced to learn fast or risk failure. We didn’t exactly succeed as so much succumbed to the craziness, but nonetheless, it was unforgettable experience.

Overview

Ho Chi Minh is a big city divided into around 20 districts plus suburban areas. Each district has something different to offer.

I would recommend reading this post for an overview of the districts before you book your stay.

We stayed in district 3, which is a bit like district 1 but with the intensity turned down a bit and a few more trees and green areas (the city in general has some really good parks, making me realise again how shit Manchester is in comparison to most other cities for green spaces).

Food!

After a 15hr flight, a beer and food was in order. We grabbed a couple of cold beers from one of the many street vendors - you sit in the comically small plastic chair and they’ll bring you a cold can of beer, Saigon or Tiger are the cheapest. Expect to pay around 25k dong from one of these places, which is less than £1.
